Closing in on the Nokia Lumia EOS 41MP?

You know I'm not really fond of spreading  "rumours", but Daniel Rubino from WPCentral is a very trusted source. And what he wrote this weekend is getting me so extremely excited I feel I should have shared it with you sooner than this evening.

You also know I've always firmly believed the Nokia 808 PureView's 41MP sensor will be coming to Nokia Lumia on Windows Phone 8 as well. And it looks like it's going to be soon, now.

Earlier I spotted this report on WMPoweruser. Daniel has a source confirming that story here. As Daniel describes it, the following comes "by way of numerous trusted sources whom we know and who have seen the device".

Here's what he can conclude based on their information - and I quote:

41 MP camera with Xenon flash
Nokia Pro Camera
32 GB internal
OLED Screen 768X1280
WP8 V 8.0.10322.71
FM radio
Flip to silence
Polycarbonate body
Takes a 35 MP picture and a 5 MP picture at the same time one to save one to share
Comes in yellow
No SD card
About 1 mm thinner than Lumia 920 with a big camera hump
No visible OS changes

There are many reasons for me to get excited about this. First, it's a next sign the "EOS" (now called "Elvis") is about to be announced. Unless we're going to be very disappointed, this could be just about as good as the Nokia 808 PureView is - but on a much more modern, popular and fast growing OS.

I'm impressed with the "takes a 35MP and a 5MP picture at the same time" bit. I would like a "38MP and 8MP picture" too, but this really looks promising. However, I think it will only make the 35MP shot if you choose full resolution - I can't really believe you'll be shooting full resolution shots all the time.

There are tons of comments below the original post (I just linked it once more) and most of them are complaining about the "No SD card" info. I'm not sure how I feel about that, really. I'm not the kind of guy bringing his complete music library, but if you're going to take "Elvis" on holiday (and shoot some videos with it), it's likely you'll need to bring your laptop, too.

Another surprising detail is "About 1 mm thinner than Lumia 920 with a big camera hump". I'm really looking forward to the way the designer team managed to tackle that, since... well,  it sounds like a hard thing to do and still make it look epic.

Because epic is what this new Nokia is going to be. No doubt in my mind: Elvis is going to be the next landmark after the Nokia 808 PureView - the smartphone camera this club is (almost) all about. Bringing this technology to Windows Phone 8 could be making another dent in the universe - and I can't wait to watch it happen.

Meanwhile, I'm not adding any mock-up shots of what "Elvis" might possibly look like. I just want to share the information with you, share my excitement, and yes: I do wonder what you think about it? Would "the missing micro-SD slot" be a dealbreaker for you? I'm sure it wouldn't be for me - but hey, I just run this club ;-)
