Freak out! Nile Rodgers and Chic, recorded with the Nokia Lumia 1020 and 808 PureView
Nile Rodgers was about one meter away from me... Yesterday evening in Hilversum I enjoyed a fantastic concert of Nile and his band Chic. Different than many other great musicians, he appeared to really love the cameras in the audience. He even came on stage with his own camera, taking shots of the audience...
If you don't know who Nile Rodgers is (read all about him on WikiPedia) it's completely unlikely you never heard at least three of his songs. During this evening he played a wide selection from his amazing amount of hit records, not only for Chic ( Freak Out), but also for Diana Ross ( I'm Coming Out), Sister Sledge ( We Are Family), Madonna ( Like a Virgin), David Bowie ( Let's Dance), Duran Duran ( Notorious) - the list goes on forever. At this moment Daft Punk featuring Pharell and Nile Rodgers have a number one hit all over the world with Get Lucky.
So that's who Nile Rodgers is, and that's why I was honored to be so close to the stage. Now it's absolutely impossible to just stand still and film a concert like that. You really feel like a dork when you're not dancing to this music. But I did bring the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Nokia 808 PureView, so I would feel bad not getting some footage also!
Just a few remarks before I share the video with you. In circumstances like this, it's easier to shoot a good video than good pictures. You better get the video, you can always get some stills from them later.
Having said that, in my experience the Nokia Lumia 1020 gives you better stills: the recording appears to be sharper. On the other hand I have to admit that the lens of the 808 PureView was not completely clean, as you will see in the recording of Freak Out. The lens flare gives it a great seventies effect! :-)
To conclude: you'll notice the stereo sound of the Nokia 808 PureView is better than that from the Nokia Lumia 1020. I think the Lumia 1020 is very good as well though - the music was very loud and there is no distortion whatsoever. Now choose 1080p if your connection is fast enough, maximize the screen, pump up the volume and enjoy the best footage I got from the concert: Freak Out!
On YouTubeBelow - after the break - you'll see three stills from the video and shots from the 1020 and 808! Four shots captured with the Nokia Lumia 1020: And the last two portraits were captured with the Nokia 808 PureView... You'll find the originals and more of these shots on Flickr!PureViewClub is on Twitter, Facebook and Google+
