Miniature comparison (1) - Nokia Lumia 1020 vs Nokia 808 PureView
Update: I decided to remove the results of the Sony Xperia Z1 today, since I feel I didn't do it justice. I discovered the lens of the Xperia Z wasn't competely clean - more on that in a later post.
Moreover, it seems I (or it) focussed on a different part than the part I chose "to crop". I'm sorry - I'm only human, but I'd rather correct the mistake than live with it. This mini comparison is now about both PureView Nokia's. To be continued.
Still pressed for time, I've decided to share some more "miniature comparisons" - not an almost endless amount of shots, but just one "study" so to say, captured with different smartphone cameras - the ones I have with me :-)
Yesterday I was waiting for a train and my eye caught a concrete wall, part of a large whatever it was (I wouldn't even know the word for it in my own language).
The train was still a few minutes away, so I made a few shots: 8MP and full res 38MP with the Nokia 808 PureView, the "automatic" 5MP and 38MP with the Nokia Lumia 1020.
I resized the shots, I made crops, resized some of those to fit this post, and you'll find all the originals shots in a dedicated set on Flickr, as you are used to. I must say I was quite surprised by the results.
First, all uncompressed versions: the Nokia 808 PureView 38MP result (resized of course)
Next, the Nokia Lumia 1020, 38MP, so no oversampling
As we are used to by now, the Lumia 1020 gives a bit more of an "amber" tint, whereas the 808 PureView appears to be quite cold. But the Lumia 1020 seems to show much more detail, so let's have a look at some of the crops (after the break)
Nokia 808 PureView, crop from 38MP (1280 x 960 : 2 to fit this post)
Nokia 808 PureView, crop from the 8MP oversampled result
Same for the Nokia Lumia 1020: crop from the 38MP (1280 x 960 :2), no oversampling
And from the Nokia Lumia 1020 a crop from the 5MP PureView result:
I really prefer the way the Nokia Lumia 1020 presents the image. Not just colorful, but also showing the most detail, like the concrete being really moist, as it was that morning. Again, all the original shots are on Flickr. Update: I deleted all the Sony Xperia Z1 shots (see above).
