Some words after flashing my Nokia 808

Last weekend, with the help of a Dutch friend from the PureViewClub, I flashed my Nokia 808 PureView, using the files that have been online for just a short while. The so-called "Feature Pack 2" gives you quite a different and especially faster user interface, so it will be worth the wait.

I have been busy at work though, I hardly had time to work with my "new" Nokia 808, so this post is not about all new features you may expect. Moreover, you can find many posts and videos on the subject already.

Yesterday, I was surprised to find some people being in doubt about the picture quality of the Nokia 808 PureView after this unofficial update to Feature Pack 2 (I'm now on version 113.010.1506). I read about more noise in the pictures, it could be harder to focus, things like that. I haven't experienced anything like it yet, but like I said, I didn't have much chance to work with my unofficially updated device.

I will be keeping a close eye on that the days to come, of course. Moreover, I've read about the software being more instable, so also because of that it is probably much wiser to wait for the official update (again, I haven't noticed any difference up until now).

Today I could just make one shot I thought would be worth sharing. I'm not publishing it here (and on Flickr) to prove anyone right or wrong about the picture quality and it's not a masterpiece of any kind, just a shot of a glass wall, showing a lot of bright and dark details at the same time.

I made it in full resolution (34MP) with the Nokia 808 PureView on the unofficial FP2. You may want to have a look at the original shot as well (beware, the link leads to a 11,2MB file).

Tomorrow will be an important day for testing. Not just going to Cologne to see the Nokia Lumia 920, but also making pictures of it in probably not too favorable lighting circumstances (inside), and of course comparing both. I'm looking forward to it very much, hope to update you already from there or on the train back home.
