The joy of sharing smartphone photography - an invitation to join the Flickr SmartCamClub Group

For this first post about mobile photography in the new Club, here's a selection of shots I captured with a diversity of smartphones in the recent past. As you probably know, I always carry quite a few smartphone cameras with me - you never know when there's a good opportunity to compare them. But of course, I make way more shots without working on comparisons. In this selection you will find shots from the Nokia Lumia 1020 and 830, the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom (about which I hope to post quite a bit more soon) and (just) one of the Sony Xperia Z3.

You will find the originals on Flickr, where I started a dedicated SmartCamClub Group today. You are kindly invited to share great shots you've captured on your smartphone (on any mobile platform that is). I will share the current shots in no particular order. And I'm not pretending these are masterpieces in any way, it's just for the joy of sharing some recent shots from multiple devices. Let me just start with this startling piece of art at Schiphol Airport, captured with the Nokia Lumia 830...  Let's just pretend you landed there, to visit some parts of The Netherlands, like I've been doing with my family in the previous week. Here's quite a remarkable view on the Amstel river in Amsterdam, captured with the Nokia Lumia 1020.  Let's look a bit further in that neighbourhood - here's a somewhat confusing painting of one of the former (?) salesmen on the Waterlooplein - the famous flee market of Amsterdam Another scene from the city, captured in bright sunny colours this time with Sony's Xperia Z3
Now let's change the light conditions... First, to a blast from the past I saw in a bar - it's almost hard to believe this scene was captured in 2014, with the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom (handheld in 1/3 sec.)  And would you like to know what's on the cassettes? Let's do one crop from the center of the shot   Not bad I'd say! Also in this shot from the Galaxy K Zoom, corner sharpness leaves much to be desired, but I do like this result. Let's have a look at an even darker scene: the funfair at the Dam in Amsterdam, captured late a night - again with the Lumia 1020 (captured at ISO 400 and 1/19 sec)
The Lumia's 5MP result is showing some oustanding detail - care for another crop?   Well, let's move on to some lighter scenes - like these flying umbrellas I caught in the city of Deventer, with the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom   The old center of Deventer uses these umbrellas for decoration for a long time I heard - and with great effect!   Too bad it was very grey when I visited the city - I promised myself to come back for more one day. In the big Protestant Church in the center, with the Nokia Lumia 1020 I captured this lovely piece of art I can´t resist sharing here as well.   And the final shot is a lucky one - one of many I had to take before I got lucky enough to focus on this bee that was caught between the large flower and the lens of my Samsung Galaxy K Zoom (macro)   Just a few shots I liked from the recent past. Like I promised - and exactly like I used to do at the PureViewClub, you'll find the originals in a dedicated set on Flickr, so you can have a detailed look at them if you want (or maybe save one as your desktop for a while).

I'm lucky to be able to work with many smartphones at the same time (depending on companies willing to send me a review sample, always very much appreciated). Now with this new Club I feel free to share results like these on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram as well, so be sure to follow/like the SmartCamClub there please. For instance, today I received a review sample of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and I'm really looking forward to see what that will be able to capture. Is it better than the Sony Xperia Z3 for instance? Stay tuned and let's find out together! :-)
